Well I came across these UV sterilising bottles through Gizmodo where there was quite the debate going on over this product. The UV bottles, named the Pureray System were designed by Hwa-yong Shin & Hannah Kim. Apparently one individual on the forum on Gizmodo whom recently received his PhD in biochemistry in 2008 felt that he was an expert on free radical formation and that this is the chief problem with this sterilising system. To save everyone a lot of trouble on the free radical situation…free radicals are any free atom or molecule that is unpaired thereby causing it to be chemically reactive. Yes, by UVing organisms and muting their DNA you may release free radicals but you need to ensure you UV long enough to eliminate this concern thus breaking down all the organismal DNA. Also the formula or your breastmilk you add to the bottle contains many vitamins such as Vitamin E and Vitamin C which neutralize free radicals so once you add the milk this should reduce even further the possiblity.

As for the bottles themselves and the general concept… I think its great! They are meant to be an on-the-go sterilisation tool so you don’t have to take a load of bottles when you go out for a long time with your baby.
There were a couple of other comments from individuals like a dishwasher works perfectly fine at sterlizing…true…but if your out, you don’t usually have one. Or what if you are like me and don’t have a dishwasher? And there was another remark about using BLEACH!?!?! Sorry but NO! Please never, ever wash your baby’s bottles with bleach no matter how much you dilute it! I don’t care if CLOROX or any other Bleach manufacturer tells you its ok! It will almost always leave a residue and your child will end up drink small amounts of it with their formula or your breastmilk. DO NOT DO IT…end of story!
And here is how the Pureray system works…
