This post is a bit vintage as the Worcester Vintage WAVE Fair was back at the end of July, but the time has now come for another Vintage Fair in Worcester this weekend, August 28 and 29th so you can go and have a look for some of the great vintage shops and items I mention here now.

I had a fabulous time at the last fair looking at all the wonderful 40’s dressed fans courtesy of Le Keux Events, the fabulous area vintage shops such as Textile Treasure Seeker, Richmond Retro, Toadstool Vintage, and Second Hand Rose to name a few. But I found Vintage Vanity particular interesting as they were selling these adorable stuffed toys fashioned from vintage fabrics! Check out this adorable owl I picked up for Boy Blue. This little guy was created by the mother of a shop assistant at Vintage Vanity. If you want to get one of your own or find out more about other stuffed vintage toys contact Charlie at Vintage Vanity from Tuesday through to Saturday between 10AM and 4PM or to contact by email go here.

A couple of weekends ago, we went over to Upton and popped into one of my new favourite places, Clives Fruit Farm. I was first introduced to the place by Jennie (one of my breastfeeding calendar mums) who had her H & W Breastfeeding Calendar photography shoot there with me. I love it to say the least. They have pick your own & a fresh farm shop including a lovely fresh fruit and veg market and their range of homemade apple juices and ciders…yum! You really can make a day of it there as there are farm animals to pet and feed, plenty of space to run around and a little play park. There is ample seating both inside and out for lunch and a cuppa too! And their prices are superb…ideal cost for quality fresh food!

Here are my photos from the day. I highly recommend an outing to anyone in the area and a quick stop for those visiting. You’ll love it too!

Sorry for my disappearing act for a while and no I haven’t been on the see-saw this whole time with my son. I have been working away as usual planning more photography sessions for the charity breastfeeding calendar and also busy with research. I still have lots of exciting information to share about some great finds from the recent baby fair and vintage fair in Worcester. I also want to share our family day at Clive’s fruit farm with you so keep watching!

I wanted to post a message about this because I have met many wonderful mothers and received fantastic support from the local Malvern NCT. I hope this will encourage some fellow local mothers to join us…

Many parents have benefited from the National Childbirth Trust in different ways over the years: Ante-natal classes, breastfeeding support and Nearly New Sales as well as social networks/friendships fostered through open house groups and the local newsletter.

Now they urgently need to keep the Malvern branch going with new volunteers so they don’t lose all of the above! PLEASE come along to an emergency meeting and find out about the opportunities to get involved at Mair’s House, 5 Gilbert Road, Malvern WR14 3RQ (tel 01684 561 958) at 7.30 for 8.00 next Tuesday 20th July.

Babies would be most welcome.

We ventured out to Birmingham two weekends ago to break away from the usual local visits. We decided to pay a visit to the Birmingham Sea Life Center. My initial thoughts on the center were that it was very easy to get to, located in a clean, well manicured parts of the city and had a nice overall appearance.

Tristan and I had a great time looking at all the wild sea life but Baby Blue was less than captured, most likely because he’s only 16 months old. He did however love the past of the center where he could touch and splash. He would have been there all day and by the end there would have been no water to splash! I was able to get lots of beautiful pictures of the sea life so that kept me happy and entertained.

By the end of the tour we arrived at the gift shop which I must say is always a displeaser to me. I think it is horrible for such establishments to place a gift shop at the end of the tour thus pressuring unknowing parents into buying lots of overpriced tack for their children. Fortunate for us Baby Blue doesn’t understand what it all is and didn’t start kicking and screaming as we passed it all by. I was also shocked by the price which I inquired about at the end of our visit. We managed to pay £3 less per person as we previously booked online before our visit but normally if you just walk into the Sea Life Center the cost is a shocking $17.50 a person. I thought this was a bit much on reflection. I do however it can be quite expensive to care for all that sea life. Just think about how much it costs to run a single small salt water aquarium in your own home! I think had they had a sealion center or exhibit it would have been more value for your money. If we were to visit again it would require the center offering a two for one deal to be honest.

All in all, we made the most of the beautiful day and enjoyed both the Sea Life Center and the sunshine just outside in the square. For more on the Sea Life Center visit here.

We went to Wye Valley this weekend to visit a wonderful and VERY HOT Butterfly Zoo and a fantastic Amazing Hedge Puzzle Maze. I would high recommend this to anyone in the Hereford/Worcestershire Area with children looking for something to do one day during a summer weekend when the weather is nice! For more information on the Butterfly Zoo go here and on the Hedge Puzzle go here.

As I said above, if it is a hot day, the Butterfly Zoo will be even hotter inside. Consider wearing light and loose clothing when you go and be careful of the heat if you are bringing a young baby along. They do realise that most people can’t tolerate the heat inside for long periods of time so they very kindly allow you to leave, cool off and re-enter as many times as you wish!

EVERYONE ♥s BABIES! What better way to show how much love everyone has for babies and what love they bring into the lives they touch than a film. The movie follows four unique and different births of babies through to their first year. The babies are all from extremely different cultures – Namibia, Japan, Mongolia and the United States. The movie is a delight of photography and musical score void of narration, touching on the ways babies explore, wonder and learn in their different environments and cultures.

The diversity of the envionments was the first noticable element to this film. Ponijao born and raised in the under developed landscape of Namibia, while in technological thriving Tokyo, Mari was coming into her own. The common theme in each culture is that you see the babies develop their individualism and personalities. This leads us into the second dramatic point of this film, that no matter where or what the environment and amount of external stimulus, a human is a human is a human, and as long as these babies were surrounded everyday in an environment of love, they were happy and thrived.

This movie was directed by Thomas Balmès. Thomas was recently on Oprah. You can find out more about his interview with her here.

You can get the soundtrack by Bruno Coulais here.
